Immigration

 

Project Second Chance, the Library's Adult Literacy Program

Project Second Chance (PSC), the Contra Costa County Library Adult Literacy Program, offers free, confidential, one-on-one basic literacy instruction to people who read or write below the 6th grade level. Students are over 18 years of age, out of high school, and speak English well enough to communicate over the telephone and in person. While many PSC students are native English speakers, many others are non-native English speakers who can benefit from tutoring sessions that are conducted in English.

Sex Trafficking Victims

Red Sand Project is a participatory artwork that uses sidewalk interventions, earthwork installations and convenings to create opportunities for people to question, connect and take action against vulnerabilities that can lead to human trafficking and exploitation.

 

Catholic Charities Claire's House

The children who will live at Claire’s House are powerful, inspiring young people between the ages of 12 and 17. They have made the decision to get away from their exploiters, to seek help, and to reclaim their lives. Each child at Claire’s House is a victim of a crime. They do not come directly from the street.  Claire’s House is not an alternative to jail, not an emergency shelter, not a drop-off site, and not a crisis center. It’s a home.  Claire’s House referrals come from community and social service organizations.

Monument Crisis Center

Monument Crisis Center is a community-based non-profit family resource center for Central and East Contra Costa County. Located in Concord, the Center offers nutritious food, quality resources and referrals to low-income individuals and families in order to help them become stable and secure in our community.
